Judge Kevin Kolb
Seguin Municipal Judge, Kevin Kolb is a lifelong Republican who began his business and legal career at age 19 by working his way through college as a Licensed Texas Realtor. Judge Kolb graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988, and went on to become a C.P.A., an Attorney, and later earned an advanced law degree-an LL.M., in State and Federal Taxation.
While attending law school, Judge Kolb was fortunate enough to have studied under two Justices of the United States Supreme Court - Chief Justice William Rehnquist and Associate Justice Antonin Scalia. Judge Kolb attributes many of his conservative legal principles, such as his "strict constructionist" interpretation of the Constitution and the "non-Judicial activism" approach to legal issues to the time he spent attending the personal lectures of those two legendary conservative Justices.
Judge Kolb's Municipal Court duties include Magistration & Bail determination for Felony and Misdemeanor Defendants. Judge Kolb reviews and executes Search & Seizure Warrants and conducts Criminal Evidentiary and Procedural Hearings. Judge Kolb has presided over countless Bench Trials, Jury Trials, Juvenile Sentencing and Punishments matters, and is authorized by the State of Texas to conduct Marriage Ceremonies as Judge. The same rules of evidence, procedure, jury selection, and judicial conduct Judge Kolb follows as municipal Judge are all the same rules which he will apply as Judge of the 25th Judicial District Court and provide him with the unique judicial experience and proven leadership to be our next District Judge.
In addition to his duties as Municipal Judge, Judge Kolb has a private law practice and focuses on family law with very complex property and custody issues as well as probate litigation and federal and state tax and estate Planning. Judge Kolb is a former Prosecutor and served as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Seguin from 1998 to 2008.
Because of Judge Kolb's commitment to integrity and to facilitating justice he does not have a private practice in any area of law where it could be perceived as a potential conflict of interest with his judicial duties, namely, Criminal law. Although this rule is self-imposed, Judge Kolb believes that the mere appearance of a potential conflict with a judge's judicial duties is problematic and he has taken a position which removes even a hint of impropriety.
